Our parish has sponsored 16 families in the past and we are continuing that good ministry now. We have worked with AURA to bring in a family who are from Turkey.
March 9, 2017 – The family we have been supporting is settling in well. Asad continues his studies and is now working part time. Zohrea is doing well with ESL and is beginning to seek employment. Ali is working on his drivers license to get work. They are adapting to the winter and crazy weather. Our volunteers are doing an excellent job of caring for this family.
If you are interested in supporting our care of refugees, please speak with Canon Reid. Donations may be made to support this program – mark your envelope/cheque ‘refugee fund’.
Elevator Lift Construction is Complete!
After two years of planning and preparation, construction of the elevator lift began on January 9, 2017. After some initial issues that slowed work briefly, it has progressed well over the past five weeks. As you read this edition of the SPAN, the construction of the elevator shaft should be completed and the installation of the lift underway. The project was completed mid April and passed inspection just after Easter.
Many thanks to the staff, parish groups and all the members of the church family for the patience and understanding you have shown in putting up with the inconvenience caused by the construction.
The start of the new year has proven to be a busy time for members of the Accessibility Committee. I want to thank Bob Bond, Tom Alloway and Gordon Patterson for their dedication in overseeing the installation of the elevator lift. We are very fortunate to have the expertise of Bob Bond, a construction project manager by profession, guide us through the process, along with our architect, Alex Jacobi, of the firm of Snyder Architects Inc.
A separate fund raising committee is at work to ensure we reach our financial goal in order to make our church much more accessible. Your commitment to making it possible will be greatly appreciated.
The addition of the elevator lift will not only be greatly welcomed by many of our parishioners, it will enable St. Peter’s to expand its outreach to the community.
